Arcas, chests and trunks have been part of traditional furniture in homes for hundreds of years. Trunks, chests lighter than were the ancestors of modern luggage, and they carried the belongings of those who had to emigrate to other countries or just change of residence.
now no longer required for its original function, but always can be given a new use: for storage, as a table, or just a decorative object.
depending on what materials (wood, cloth, leather, cardboard ..) can be treated in different ways: you can upholstering, painting, or a good restoration restore its original appearance.
Here I show the transformation that we did with one of these pieces:
- The outside was lined with fabric and wood had reinforcements. Inside was papered.
- As the fabric was in poor condition, we decided to remove it, and under it appeared a wooden and cardboard. We also remove all paper from the interior.
- After the initial cleaning, remove the rust of fittings, and then paint. The wood is sanded, you gave color and finally varnished wood both as cardboard. Inside
